The third and fourth seasons of the cooking shonen series Food Wars! Azami Nakiri had returned to Totsuki, and he aimed to use his daughter Erina as a weapon to take command of the entire school and its cooking scene. Thus, Central was born. Soma and his friends resisted with all their might, but it was an uphill battle, and Azami started expelling one rebellious student after another. In the end, though, he agreed to a massive cooking battle, in which his eight best Central students would face the eight best rebel students including Erina , and the winning side would get their way.

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma recently brought the fourth season of the series to its end , and with its big finale came a major status quo shift following the Team Shokugeki between Central and the Rebels. With Soma and Erina officially clinching the victory, the rebels also gained control of the entirety of the Elite Ten seats. Meaning that they shifted the top ten students of Totsuki Academy as a new group of skilled chefs have made their claim of the top. Those on the victorious rebel team got first dibs, however. As Soma and the others make their way into their second year of Totsuki, the final episode of the series revealed the new Elite Ten in full. Souma Yukihira has been cooking alongside his father Jouichirou for as long as he can remember. As a sous chef at his father's restaurant, he has spent years developing his culinary expertise and inventing new dishes to amaze their customers. He aspires to exceed his father's skill and take over the restaurant one day, but he is shocked to learn that Jouichirou is closing up the shop to take a job in New York. Rather than tagging along with his father, Souma finds himself enrolling at the prestigious Tootsuki Culinary Academy, where only 10 percent of its students end up graduating. The school is famous for its "Shokugeki"—intense cooking competitions between students often used to settle debates and arguments. Jouichirou tells Souma that to surpass him and survive the next three years at Tootsuki and graduate there. The academy's brutal curriculum and fiercely competitive student body await the young chef, who must learn to navigate the treacherous environment if he wants to stand a chance at realizing his dreams. A Shokugeki is battled between two parties; while the duel is normally one vs. In that case, the number of chefs participating in each party does not have to be equal, additionally, one side can complete with only one solo chef while the other side has a number of culinary combatants. Other than that, the rules and setup are roughly the same as a regular Shokugeki. Each side must wager something over the cooking duel should they lose the challenge. Both sides must agree that both proposed compensations of the duel are of equal significance with each other. For example, if any student were to challenge an Elite Ten Council member for their chair and lose, even the challenger's expulsion would not be sufficient to equate to the value of an Elite Ten seat.
