Fortnite, the popular battle royale game from Epic Games, is developed using the Unreal Engine. Specifically, Fortnite is known for being created with Unreal Engine 4. The Unreal Engine is a powerful, versatile game engine developed by Epic Games. It's widely used in the industry for developing AAA games due to its high-quality graphics capabilities and robust toolset that allows for creating complex gameplay mechanics, realistic physics, and engaging multiplayer experiences. This allows developers to create gameplay elements without needing to write code, making it accessible for both programmers and non-programmers. Given that Epic Games develops both Fortnite and the Unreal Engine, they are able to tightly integrate game features with engine capabilities. They have also used Fortnite as a showcase for new Unreal Engine features, implementing them into the game to push the boundaries of what can be achieved within their game engine. Furthermore, as the Unreal Engine evolves, Fortnite often receives updates that take advantage of the latest engine improvements. For example, when Unreal Engine 5 was announced, Epic Games mentioned that Fortnite would eventually be migrated to the new engine version to benefit from its advanced features like the Nanite virtualized geometry system and Lumen global illumination. To illustrate how a game feature might be implemented in Unreal Engine 4, here is a very basic outline of spawning an actor an object in the game world, such as a weapon or item using Blueprints:. For example, if you're spawning a weapon, you might set its damage value or customize its appearance right after spawning it. Here is a snippet showing what the Blueprint nodes might look like in textual form not actual code :. Once this Blueprint is executed within the game, it will dynamically create an instance of the specified actor class at the desired location in the world. Dragonfly is fully compatible with the Redis ecosystem and requires no code changes to implement. Company About us Careers.

At the State of Unreal presentation, Epic Games announced a slew of new product information and details. As part of its UEFN roadmap , Epic Games revealed that "by the end of ," it will ship the first season of its widely popular free-to-play Battle Royale, made entirely using the level editor it introduced nearly a year ago. Beyond that surprise, Epic went into more detail about the UEFN roadmap and the new creator tools it will add this year. This includes confirmation that the first-person camera settings will arrive in UEFN sometime this year; this is a highly requested feature by creators and is something Epic previously teased would be added down the road. In addition, gameplay will allow users to experiment with in-game physics in a sandbox-style environment and manipulate static objects. UEFN was released in public beta last year. This PC-only creator tool "works side-by-side with Fortnite's existing Creative toolset," allowing users to develop and create new experiences entirely inside the PC version of Fortnite. Many tools from Unreal Engine 5, such as custom asset import, modeling, and VFX, are present in this free app.

As part of the start of Fortnite Chapter 3, Epic Games has announced that Fortnite development has shifted to Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of the company's graphic technology. We're excited to share this journey with you and are working to make this the best experience possible for the entire Fortnite community. Earlier this year, Unreal Engine 5 was officially released in Early Access , letting game devs test out the new tools and features in the next-gen engine. More Unreal Engine 5 tech demos and projects are already starting to crop up. Major studios like Gears of War team The Coalition have begun developing on the new engine and showed off a stunning Unreal Engine 5 tech demo; giving a glimpse to what could be the future of the Gears series on Xbox Series X. But, Fortnite is taking it a step further than these other projects, shifting all development to Unreal Engine 5, pushing the engine beyond tech demos. Fortnite Chapter 2 wrapped up earlier this week and was swiftly replaced by Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1 , which comes with a different island map, new gameplay, and a new Battle Pass featuring Spider-Man.
