We have more newsletters. Family, friends, staff and clients are mourning the passing of Stirling hairdressing icon Frances Hunter. Frances, 81, died peacefully at her home in Bridge of Allan on Sunday, September 17, surrounded by her closest family. A private funeral and celebration of her life was held last Wednesday, September 27, at Bannockburn Crematorium, followed by a lunch at Rowardennan on the banks of her beloved Loch Lomond. Frances and husband Eddie, who passed away in aged 47, were pioneers of the beauty and style industry in Stirling and Alloa from the early sixties. They opened their first salon together in Greenfield Street, in Alloa, in — Eddie insisted on naming it after his new wife — and they soon expanded to open additional salons in Clackmannan and Barnton Street. He quit his job as a driver to train under Vidal Sassoon in London and he and mum took the big decision to open their first salon almost 60 years ago. A former Scottish Hairdressing Salon of the year, Frances Hunter have also won numerous accolades at the British Hairdressing awards and are one of only six salons in the country to work in partnership with industry leader Wella. Frances never formally retired and in recent times was still a welcome visitor to the Port Street salon, where daughter-in-law Allaine is the manager. By Chris Marzella.
