Like most Spanish tourist resorts Fuengirola was once a small fishing village but how it has changed. It is certainly one of the biggest tourist resorts in Spain and can be compared to the likes of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca and other Costa del resorts such as Torremolinos and Benalmadena. All along the promenade you have the beach bars Chiringuitos all offering beers and spirits and traditional Southern Spanish seaside dishes such as Gazpacho, sardines on the spit, paella and pescaito frito mixed fried fish platter. Fuengirola is situated between Malaga and Marbella and is also close to the pretty town of Mijas Pueblo. This is a charming traditional Spanish village perched on top of the mountain with stunning views of the Costa del Sol. This area is a real favourite with families because there is so much to see and do such as Selwo Marina and Tivoli World. For culture and history lovers there is the Roman baths at Torreblanca and the old Moorish castle called Castillo Sohail which overlooks the town.
