RAW files are therefore bigger and have no manipulation to them. Bright colours are also more subdued showing that the software is working. Shooting outdoors on an overcast day, I was able to keep the sensitivity setting down to ISO while maintaining a good balance of tones in my shots and avoiding either detail lost to shadows or bleached out areas. Colour is good, but some of my test shots weren't quite as clear as I would have liked and there was evidence of fringing along sharp contrasts towards the edges of some frames. The images are well exposed, sharp and colourful. In fact, all the Fujifilm FinePix SL's features work well with one another and although the start up time is still nearly a second faster than a typical digital compact, we still have our reservations over the spring loaded power switch. For example, the camera will tell the flash if the zoom is out and that it should increase power output. Look on top of the Fujifilm FinePix SL at the flash that sits over the lens and you'll see the hot-shoe just behind it. This is caused by the lens not quite focusing each wavelength of incoming light at the same point on the sensor, and splitting off a particular part of the spectrum in the same way that a prism can do when positioned in direct sunlight. It's equal to a 35mm range of 24mm to mm. The main issue we have with an EVF and this isn't singularly Fujifilm is that the menus are brought up in it too. Close examination of some results also reveals colour fringing along the edges of sharp contrasts. The 50x optical zoom starts at 24mm in 35mm terms and finally stops at a nostril flaring mm. Blacks are black, with no colour invasion, smooth surfaces are smooth and edges are sharp. This may impact your ability -- or desire -- to crop your results too tightly, so it's just as well that with a 50x zoom at your disposal it's not often going to be the case that you would want to. Low mode will record 3fps, Medium will record 5fps while High will record 10fps.
