The engine braking feature is a useful add-on for customers that tow often or folks that drive down mountain grades. The feature is active when the following conditions are met: in gears , engine rpm above rpm, and foot off the accel pedal. While the engine braking is active the turbo vanes are closed more to create higher back pressure in the exhaust manifold. This makes it harder to push exhaust out and that force acts on the pistons to help slow the vehicle down. This helps to reduce the need for vehicle brakes and reduces wear on the brake hardware.

Coupled with the transmission tune, it is like buying a new vehicle. Also, the max power of the engine is achieved as soon as possible with the hot tune and maintained over a plateau as wide as possible roughly rpm. This gives a noticeable gain in the performance feeling of the engine while accelerating. FCA Eco Diesel 3. FCA EcoDiesel 3. Engine Output Comparison. I installed the GDE eco-tune in mid December. For that hijacker Joined Jun 28, Messages Reaction score The GDE tunes are actually fairly conservative with respect to peak cylinder pressure and exhaust temps. Throttle response is great! I was just going to order the GDE and didn't anywhere they ask for that. Chat, hang out, and stay close with your friends and communities. OrioN said:. I think the basis of that is less soot in the oil thus better oil life, longer engine life. I was considering traiding the truck in for a with the cummins diesel. I'm not concerned about it. The idle seems a bit more even or full, not sure how to describe it. So I pulled the trigger.

We focus on utilizing engineering principles when designing engine and transmission calibrations. Testing and measuring the critical parameters on the powertrain are essential to meeting safety and design limits. Cylinder pressure measuring equipment is vital to calibrating correctly for optimum results.

This is a non starter for a small company. When the exhaust fast heat mode is active, the torque converter will be kept unlocked while the vehicle is accelerating slowly or at steady speed. I'm also curious who "many on this forum and others" are that you're referring to. This is an increase of mpg over factory. I can just follow directions well. It's not about the money - I simply do not want to get ripped off. I've had my share of vehicle modifications over the years and in most cases the vehicle was better off to be left alone and not fiddled with Of course, their new engines have turbines designed for the higher temps and changes to cylinder head stiffness for peak firing pressures. I no longer feel like I am going to get hit from behind when I pull out into traffic. What's new New posts New profile posts Latest activity. Hope this helps, Roger. My eco had similar thing happen to it.
