To accurately depict the Battle of Blackwater Bay as it is told in A Clash of Kings would be a nigh-on impossible task even with a budget much larger than that of Game of Thrones. It is simply huge, so I had no problem anticipating something different in the TV series. What is delivered is remarkably impressive, being perhaps the most spectacular battle sequence I have ever seen on television and managing to echo the atmosphere of the what happens in the novel. With a script penned by George RR Martin himself, the episode almost comes with a guarantee as to the level of quality that it can achieve. Martin has a distinctive voice, and it clear throughout that he just has a familiarity with this world having created it and whatnot that the other members of the writing staff cannot match. Speaking of the budget, I have absolutely no doubt that this episode must have cost an outrageous amount of money. As I said before, it is probably the single most spectacular battle event that I have seen depicted in the medium. The choreography and editing in the close-quarters fight scenes create an atmosphere that feels a lot like real siege warfare probably would. The level of violence is, as ever, very high but it makes sense and feels truthful too.
Cersei gives what may actually be a genuine laugh: "That's the worst curtsey I've ever seen, got blackwater. She leans down in front of him and kisses his sword.
