For many years, I kept hearing from many people how fantastic Jamaica is, recommending that I check it out for my next vacation. Boy, was I wrong! From the minute I stepped out of the airport in Montego Bay, I realized Jamaica is an extraordinary Caribbean island boasting beautiful landscapes, stunning beaches, vibrant people, deep-rooted culture and delicious cuisine. The cheapest all-inclusive packages from Edmonton, with the most inventory to choose from with direct flights are to Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. My family and I decided we were craving an all-inclusive vacation, so I went online to see what I could find. Luckily, at the time I was looking on the weekend of Black Friday and Cyber Monday there were a lot of really great deals to Caribbean resorts. I found some fantastic prices to resorts in Jamaica that were too hard to resist.

This somewhat secluded resort is massive, with an 86,square-foot pool complex offering an adults-only pool, water park, and whirlpools, a stellar spa fee , 11 restaurants serving international buffets and a la carte Italian, Mexican, Asian, and Caribbean cuisines, late-night entertainment, and several bars with nearly hour drinking opportunities. Junior Suites and Suites are spacious but outdated, though they come with furnished balconies or terraces, whirlpool tubs, free minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The large size won't be for everyone, and the beach is rocky and man-made. Every common area -- from the lobby and the pool complex to the restaurants and the hallways -- is larger than life. The massive whitewashed pool complex is the largest in Jamaica, and it has the feel of a Roman amphitheater with built-in whirlpools lined by columns. Ocean views and a swim-up bar make this the most popular spot for lounging and taking a dip on property, particularly as the beach is rocky and man-made.

It is grand indeed. I was greeted with a welcome drink in the open-air lobby, which consisted of large white pillars overlooking palm trees, one of the many pools, and, of course, the ocean. The rooms at The Lady Hamilton provide an atmosphere more suited for a couples getaway, while The Grand Palladium serves a more family-friendly audience. Finding the correct building was a challenge, but luckily, shuttles were zipping around the property that took me anywhere I wished. After a day or two, I got a lay of the land and gladly walked along the shaded pathways to enjoy the stunning views of the coastline and the large colonial-style architecture that marks every building of the resort. And if you've stayed here before, you may think you know the resort inside and out.
