Attribute combinations are the sets of bonus attributes that can be found in equipment and upgrade components across the game. They are commonly referred to as prefixes in equipment pieces, suffixes in upgrade components, and colloquially as stats. All combinations have at least one designated major attribute, and up to two minor attributes. These designations determine the numeric bonus assigned to each attribute. All major attributes receive the same first bonus, and all minor attributes receive the same second bonus, which is always smaller than the first.

Fafnir 11 years ago Think of it like this: Health defends generally against everything, but is the best defense against true damage mostly from conditions. Toughness only works against direct damage, but more effectively assuming not a lower level than health. So on the subject of defense, it's good to strike a balance that will cover your weaknesses, depending on the tools you have available. For example, a Necromancer has an already huge health pool, the best condition management in the game, and a large variety of methods to restore health. On the other hand, they have light armour, which means that anything that actually hits them is going to hit them quite hard. For this reason, a strong focus on toughness is useful, since it helps to mitigate one of the Necromancer's biggest weaknesses. This, of course, would vary from class to class, and possibly even build to build. Oh okay, so this early in game, it doesn't make a huge difference. But I should try and keep everything more or less balanced?

By Sifu. Is Toughness a completely useless stat? I don't see any benefits for taking Toughness over any other stat. If i take a gear with Toughens, for example, i don't see for how much i get dmg reduced. Please, Anet, could you add the exact numbers? Why do i have to do a math by myself? We get exact numbers with ALL other stats, with Toughness being an exception for no reason.

Boards Guild Wars 2 What is a good breaking point for toughness and vitality? Do you need more like k to have some decent survivability? Just wondering what the general thought on stuff like this was. Demonee-Ho 11 years ago 2.

Toughness is a defensive character attribute. Each attribute point put into toughness increases the armor of the character by one, which improves the character's ability to withstand strike damage. Toughness is one of the contributing factors in determining NPC aggression. Toughness has no effect on falling damage. For a breakdown on how Toughness or rather armor works, see Damage.

Plus they scale with the number of players fighting them which increases their level and stats and even gives them access to new skills and abilities etc. So to put it simply, vitality is more important but you should still have some toughness. Gold Find. Fafnir 11 years ago 11 Think of it like this: Health defends generally against everything, but is the best defense against true damage mostly from conditions. The reason is except for a few cases such as Boneskinner there's a dedicated tank if tanking is possible. It doesn't work that way, it's not a flat damage reduction like that. If i have base toughens armor and i take additional toughness i get toughness armor.
Don't trivialize it though; damage is a very versatile aspect of combat. There are so many ways that a character can do damage. Damage is any effect caused by an action that results in a target losing health.
Gold Find. Redfeather 11 years ago 14 TC, you should also know that almost every stat has noticeable diminishing returns except for vitality. I've tried doing other things, but unless you're in a team environment they don't work out too well. Bowl of Spiced Mashed Yams. He's beaten top notch PvP players and WvW roamers using glass builds. To assess how much damage reduction a certain amount of toughness would provide, divide the amount by the current armor rating. So, technically, you have a bigger health pool? The difference between 1. I use it on a 'WvW roaming' build - if you're playing WvW solo, even when you end up with a zerg or a group they will often break up after each battle or they might all be in comms and suddenly port out on you Toughness only works against direct damage, but more effectively assuming not a lower level than health. Prev 1 2 Next Page 1 of 2. In WvW where you're not being focused, just being attacked alongside your group - it can greatly increase your survival rate but it comes at the cost of giving up some DPS stat that may have been more useful to the group. But it's stupid that i have to guess about it. Followers 0.
