I'm new here, but I came across this board while looking for information on breeding Syrian hamsters and I felt it'd probably be a lot faster just asking folks rather than lurking or sifting through old threads to see if anyone else has asked the same thing, lol Anyway, I am a 22 year old hamster lover in the US, and I noticed just by peering through a few threads that the vast majority of users here are in the UK or Europe. Well, here in the states, or at least in my state Minnesota , the two major pet store chains Petsmart and Petco have both stopped carrying Syrian hamsters. At first, I thought this was a great thing. Hooray, no more homeless hams! No more stupid people buying two Syrians and sticking them into a tiny cage, only to wake up in the morning to discover they have fought to the death! Well, then when my boyfriend and I went looking for a new ham-friend after the passing of an old one, we found just one pet store that carried them. No rescues had them, and very few people are looking on Craigslist to rehome them.
