Bosch connects the death to a bank robbery and works with the FBI to solve the case. The robbery may have been about more than the money. A narcotics officer is found dead on Christmas night — an apparent suicide. This series really separates itself from other detective novels with its superior character creation. Less-insightful novels jump right into the action and leave a perhaps technically-accurate and action packed storyline but fail to deliver the kind of realism on display throughout the Harry Bosch series.

His work as a crime reporter has provided a level of depth few can match with regard to technical accuracy and realism in his storylines.

A few years back, I decided I wanted to try reading some crime fiction. It was important for me to read them in order of publication because I wanted to follow Harry Bosch over the course of the books. They work well as standalone books, usually with a self contained story. But if you become as addicted as I did and they are deliciously addictive it helps to have an order to choose the next book from. And I envy you if you are at the beginning of this wonderful series - you have hours of gripping, top notch crime writing of the highest order.
