I know you have heard me say it over and over, but we are in a rental home until our final and permanent move how to hang garland staircase next year. Renting can be fun, and whilst you may need renters insuranceit offers greater flexibility than buying with a mortgage can.

The scent of fresh cedar and pine garland is a welcome greeting on our staircase during the holiday season. This is the first year I have decorated our stairs using fresh garland mixed with faux greenery and I love the way it turned out. It was much easier to install than I imagined, so today I thought I would share how to put garland on a staircase quickly and easily. I love the look of garland draping along a staircase banister, and nothing looks more festive for the holidays, so I was excited to figure out how to make my fresh garland look beautiful without spending a ton of money. In previous years I have purchased garland from a local Christmas tree lot, and the cost was pretty outrageous. Last year, when Better Homes and Gardens was coming to photograph my home, I ordered a large roll of garland from Lynch Creek Farm , online and I was so happy with the quality and freshness of their products.

But I needed to get some help from all the different family members to help make these ornaments extra special and sentimental. Our family Christmas tree is going to look a little different from last year, but it will be just as special! There are a few different ways to attach your Christmas garland to your stair railing, but the easiest and thriftiest way to hang your garland is with plastic green garden twist ties. Every year when Christmas is over, I take the garland and the green twist-ties off the banister and throw them in the same tote. Christmas garland that looks full, effortless, and beautiful is actually much easier than I ever imagined! The best part about decorating your staircase with a garland like this is that you can change it every year. If this year you want classic and next year you want rustic the garland foundation remains the same. I started at the top of the banister because I would rather the garland excess or lack thereof to happen on the floor, not at the top of the stair rail. I have 10 spindles so I decided I wanted my garland to swoop from the top of the stairs to the 5th spindle and then again from the 5th spindle to the baluster. HINT: The green twist ties will slide down the handrail until the spindle stops it. I attached the green twist-tie such that it was resting against the spindle from the beginning so there was no sliding. I simply attached the two sections by twisting one strand of greenery from the first section to the second section and vis versa. Now that there was enough garland to finish the job I did another swoop with the garland and attached it at the top of the baluster, just below the round knob at the top. Now that the garland was attached I took some red ribbon and wrapped it over top of the green twist-ties and tied it in a bow. If you prefer you could just tie a bow and place an ornament hook through the back and attach it to the front of the garland.
