These syntactic characteristics are revealed through the comparison of plain or other conditional constructions and conditional questions. It is found that conditional questions have distinct syntactic properties that make them different from other conditional constructions. The other difference is that the antecedent-consequent order is the only option in conditional questions although there are two options, namely antecedent- consequent and consequent-antecedent, in other conditional constructions. The study tries to offer explanations about these patterns observed in conditional questions. Concerning the antecedent-consequent order in conditional questions, it is argued that mental or conceptual model produced in antecedent clause should be uttered first to ask the question in the consequent clause. In short, the question cannot be asked without developing the related conceptual framework in the antecedent clause. Therefore, unlike other conditional clauses and subordinate clauses the order of clauses in conditional questions is very rigid. It is even possible to argue that the antecedent-consequent order is a frozen pattern for conditional questions.
