I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch remember the '80s? Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on All Rights Reserved. It actually came out a bit ago, so you may have already jumped on that one. First mentioned in the 18th century, it was early associated with acts of opportunism , particularly in politics. Moralists also rewrote and expanded the poem so as to counter its celebration of greediness. The name of Jack Horner also came to be applied to a completely different and older poem on a folkloric theme; and in the 19th century, it was claimed that the rhyme was originally composed in satirical reference to the dishonest actions of Thomas Horner in the Tudor period. It was first documented in full in the nursery rhyme collection Mother Goose's melody, or, Sonnets for the cradle , which may date from , although the earliest surviving English edition is from The melody commonly associated with the rhyme was first recorded by the composer and nursery rhyme collector James William Elliott , in his National Nursery Rhymes and Nursery Songs The earliest reference to the well-known verse is in "Namby Pamby," a satire by Henry Carey published in , in which he himself italicised lines dependent on the original:. Putting in, Oh fie! This occurrence has been taken to suggest that the rhyme was well-known by the early eighteenth century. Although several other nursery rhymes are mentioned in his poem, the one about Little Jack Horner has been associated with acts of opportunism ever since. The political theme was later taken up by Samuel Bishop , one of whose epigrams describes the Civil service bureaucracy and enquires:. Soon after, Thomas Love Peacock took up the theme in his satirical novel, Melincourt
It was a labor of love. The bear one was my favorite with animals and the use of some beads and twine that was made to look like a garland. The completed sampler was done with silk thread and various sizes of Perle cotton on 32 count linen, jack horner cuento.

The story goes as follows. When King Henry VIII was dissolving the monasteries, the abbot sent Horner to London with the gift of a Christmas pie, in which were concealed the title deeds to twelve manors, which were designed to appease Henry in the hope that he would allow Glastonbury to survive the purging of the monasteries. But, when Horner returned to Glastonbury he opened the pie and pilled out the deeds of the Manor of Mells, which he had kept from Henry, meaning the monastery still had some of its own land. What makes the link between this story and the rhyme of Little Jack Horner a little more scintillating is that we know that a man named Thomas Horner took up residence at Mells not long after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Neat, huh? But the Horner family descended from this sixteenth-century Thomas Horner claim that their ancestor bought the manor, rather than plucking it from a pie. Even if the real Thomas Horner acquired his manor fair and square, tongues may have wagged in those divided times. Before the Dissolution of the Monasteries in there were more than eight hundred religious foundations in England with over 16, monks and nuns. During the following five years, they were all seized by the Crown and their land and buildings were either sold off or gifted to supporters of the king. One of the last to go was the ancient Benedictine abbey of Glastonbury and the tale of its own dissolution is said to supply the origin of this rhyme.

It is a large brim hat, with books and roses on a table. The largest embroidery project I ever finished was a crewel work pillow. Who would not be ensconced in thy snug corner? Many years ago, I did a baby quilt with embroidery. I use it a lot and I think it is beautiful. It was my first attempt at embroidery. Hmmm, if you are talking about size, it was a cross stitch of a Haida Native American frog. This would look lovely on a dresser ready to pick up and stitch. The stitching was wonderful and I have yet to complete the construction of the box. Thanks to Country Bumpkin too. It was my first attempt at blackwork and I relly enjoyed it!

After my brother was married in , my mother asked me to finish a cross stitch wedding sampler that she has purchased. The largest embroidery project I have done to date is all the embroidery combined that I have done on the smocked dresses I create. Pat S. Thank you for this opportunity. We even hand quilted it. Spgs however has it displayed and they are teaching it as a BOM. Thanks for the chance! In fact the complete room is decorated around the Flower Power. What Fun!! The largest project I ever completed was a crewel kit that I did as a gift for my mother. I have done a tablecloth with chainstitch outlining and a whole lot of counted stitches in the figures. You are so kind to give it away to some lucky person. I do medieval reenactment, and the largest project I ever completed was embroidering the 12 yards of fabric required for one dress in a period manner. It took me a year. Mary Ann Beacon.
