An El Paso woman faces an intoxication manslaughter charge in connection with a four-vehicle collision that killed a grandfather over the July Fourth holiday weekend. Jessica Sonya Guerra, 38, is accused of starting a deadly chain-reaction collision on July 3 in the block of Montana Avenue near Rich Beem Boulevard. El Paso County sheriff's deputies arrested Guerra on charges of intoxication manslaughter, three counts of accident involving injury and a warrant on a bond revocation on a pending DWI case. The wreck occurred while Guerra was free on a personal recognizance bond after a driving-while-intoxication arrest in January, according to jail and court records. The DWI case is set to go to trial in October. At the hearing, Guerra's lawyer, William Cox, argued the million-dollar bond was "excessive," saying his client works as a legal assistant, is the mother of two teenage boys and teaches catechism. Guerra, who was wearing a face mask and an inmate jumpsuit, did not speak when she appeared at the hearing via video from the jail. Guerra was allegedly driving a white pickup that rear ended a brown pickup that then hit a red truck, which then hit a van, Saucedo said.
