Dragon Ball Super introduced dozens of new characters to the Dragon Ball franchise. Many of these new characters were introduced during the Universal Survival saga as participants in the Tournament of Power. Two of the participants who fans fell in love with the most were the Universe 6 Saiyans, Caulifla and Kale. The first female Super Saiyans in the franchise, fans adored their contrasting personalities, their epic fights and attacks, and their fused form, Kefla. However, since the Tournament of Power, the two best friends have been absent from the story. More recently, Goku and Vegeta's new forms fell easily against Black Frieza. Caulifla is a fearsome Saiyan gang leader from Universe 6.

The final episode of Dragon Ball Super teases how the franchise's first two female Super Saiyans, Caulifla and Kale, will once again shatter their limits when they return for the next anime. During the setup for Dragon Ball Super 's Tournament of Power arc, Cabba's search for fighters for his Universe 6 team led him to a pair of female of Saiyan warriors, Caulifla and Kale. Caulifla was depicted as arrogant, ambitious, and eager for a challenge, while the timid and shy Kale unknowingly hid the power of a Legendary Super Saiyan. After joining Cabba's team, Caulifla and Kale become major players in the Tournament of Power, with most of their fights being against Goku. With help from Cabba, they were able to find their own ways to become Super Saiyans. After entering the tournament, they quickly discovered that this transformation was far from the limit of what a Saiyan can do. Goku's various forms - particularly his Super Saiyan Blue transformation - visibly impressed the two Saiyans. Though neither character was powerful enough to beat Goku, their fights with him caused them to grow stronger over a short of period of time. After fusing, they became Kefla, who was so strong that Goku had to go Ultra Instinct to win. Clearly, Caulifla and Kale aren't on Goku's level yet, unless they fuse, but they could continue to climb higher.

She is the latest Legendary Saiyan of Universe 6, a demon warrior who appears once every 1, years. Like other pure-blooded Saiyans, Kale's name comes from a vegetable, more specifically kale. She was created largely as a response to the immense popularity of the movie character Broly as well as his status as the Legendary Super Saiyan. Kale was created by Toei Animation for the Tournament of Power. Her initial background prior to Caulifla's creation was much different, unreleased but found in the source code of the Toei website for Dragon Ball Super. This version of her backstory stated that she was often looked down upon by the Saiyans of Universe 6 in particular Cabba who would be irritated with her, largely due to her meek attitude. At one point, Cabba demanded that she let her anger out and access a Super Saiyan form as he himself did. However, he ended up gaining far more than he bargained for when she proceeded to transform into a berserker state of Super Saiyan.

She is the younger sister of Renso former captain of the Sadal Defense Force. Caulifla is a short girl of slender build and fair complexion. She wears a low cut magenta tube top, low-set purple harem pants, long dark grey wristbands, and a pair of pointy dark grey shoes. Caulifla has long, wild, and spiky black hair. Caulifla's eyes are narrow yet big, with large black pupils, as well as thin eyebrows. Caulifla took Kale under her wing some time before the series began. Despite Kale's lack of confidence, Caulifla reckons she's got massive potential and always encourages her. Kale herself is completely devoted to Caulifla. She always fights by her side and takes any hits aimed at Caulifla despite her timidness. This fixation also has a negative side, as Kale grows insanely jealous of anyone who takes up Caulifla's attention and goes on a rampage.

After Rampaging Xeno Turles is defeated and killed following his revival by the Demon Gods of the Dark Empire, Caulifla who has come to accept Note as friend and ally tries to convince Note to train with her and Kale, though Kale convinces her Note has good reasons for refusing the offer, causing Caulifla to part with Note by saying they will be much stronger next time. Dragon Ball Super has done great work to stack its cast full of incredibly powerful characters, both in terms of heroes and villains. The animation company, Toei , has always tried to have influence over Dragon Ball in various ways, some of which have been helpful and others have been a detriment to the series. To their credit, when Dragon Ball Super entered its Universal Survival arc and had the opportunity to introduce new characters that were alternate takes on others, Toei latched onto the idea of a "female Broly.

Unlike Kale, she does not progress into a Powerhouse state - presumably due to the control granted by Caulifla. With how quickly both Caulifla and Kale were able to unlock Super Saiyan in comparison to Goku and Vegeta, Kefla could have already learned the two forms since the last time she was seen.
