Katherine McNamara born November 22, [1] [2] is an American actress. While growing up, McNamara was an advanced student in certain subjects, resulting in her being partly homeschooled ; she received her high school diploma at age McNamara began her acting career on stage in Kansas City. Monster , playing the role of Myra Santelli. She also appeared in an episode of the Nickelodeon series The Thundermans. In September , McNamara was cast in the seventh season of Arrow as the recurring character of Mia Smoak , the daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak ; [3] [4] McNamara was later promoted to a series regular for Arrow ' s eighth and final season.

Could you talk about how this part came about? KM: This pilot came about as any other acting job would, but it turned into something quite a bit more. I remember taping for this pilot and then quickly doing a chemistry test on Zoom with Matt Barr and suddenly I was on set in the middle of a Western, but what instantly struck me about this whole team is just the warmth and the heart that everyone is putting into telling this story and the commitment to telling what is hopefully a more historically accurate version of a Western. You get to see all of these characters who want a fresh start, who are trying to create their own sense of justice and create a world in which they want to live. I think those are the stories we like to see is people reinventing themselves and rising from the ashes and overcoming whatever obstacles are put in their way. Could you talk about your take on the character and how you view her evolution throughout the show?

Not only is it a colossal challenge trying to spark a career in film and television, but once you get there, the pressure rarely lets up. How does one manage such non-stop stressors, especially the ones that are entirely out of an artist's control? Even though The CW did cut the show after just one season, there are reports circulating that it is on the hunt for a new home. During our Collider Ladies Night conversation, we revisited her journey in theater, film, and television including a number of key influences she met along the way who proved pivotal in shaping her outlook on industry operations and what it means to be a strong leader and collaborator on set. It all began with something McNamara lucked into — being raised in a city with a thriving theater community. I always give my utmost gratitude to the Kansas City theater community because they raised me artistically. And not only did they teach me how to explore and be creative and think outside the box, but how to have work ethic, because there's no ego in that kind of community. Everybody does every job and as long as we get the show up at the end of the day, that's what matters, and do everything we can to make it the best story possible. So it never mattered what job you were doing or what part of production you were. Everyone was valued and everyone's work mattered, and everyone worked hard.
