There is no variation in valve timing of the exhaust cam because the exhaust camshaft is driven by the timing belt. The timing of the intake cam is varied by the relative operation the CVVT vane to the housing. The deviation of the camshaft position from kia dtc p0011 target point is evaluated during stable driving condition. The target camshaft position is predetermined value depending on engine speed and throttle angle in the PCM.

After consulting "The Google", it seems it could be either the solenoid has gone bad, the crank position sensor is faulty, or that the timing chain could be stretched and is now lose. I checked the solenoid with my multimeter, it came back as 8. Not sure if being 1 Ohm overspec is enough to cause problems. I'd like to check the crank position sensor next if possible, but I'm not sure if I can test it with just a multimeter. Also seems to be a bit of a pain to get access to, so any tips there would be appreciated. Checking the chain seems to be as straightforward as taking the cam cover off the engine and visually inspecting the chain, but I would like to save that option for last if I can. After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected. Did you find this document useful?

.

Here it is separated into its separate pieces, with a quick explanation of each. Vehicles with VVT can change camshaft position timing depending on whether you need power or economy. VVT allows the engine to act as though it has different camshaft profiles at different RPMs; this is great for both power and fuel economy. Sometimes, the system will get stuck in an over-advanced position. Valve timing control methods can be quite different for every engine, even from the same manufacturer, but the basics are the same.

Automakers designed the DTC code to help you know what the issue is with your car so you can have it repaired. DTCs are unique to each fault detected but, follow the same format of an alphabet preceding a four-digit number. An example of a DTC code is P A code P, according to its combination of letters and digits, is a generic error common to all car manufacturers. The code shows a fault that has occurred because of the Engine Control Module ECM being unable to rectify the advanced position angle of the camshaft in its desired position. A P error code means the intake camshaft position timing is more advanced than desired. Despite this, a P code in different car manufacturers shows trivial faults. For example,.

If you don't hear one, remove the solenoid and inspect it. Before we go too deep, how's the engine oil level and condition? After checking the CKP and CPS sensors which readings were fine I'm thinking about stretched or jumped timing chain by a tooth or some but I don't have a scope to check that out. Last edit: 5 years 3 months ago by Tyler. NOTE: 1. Engine oil filter You know the solenoid moves, so all that's left is the actuator or base timing. Log in Forgot your password? Skip carousel. You're way ahead of me on most counts. Does the P reset immediately after clearing and attempting to start? The idea here is to possibly un-stick a stuck actuator by rapidly cycling oil pressure to the actuator. I haven't thought about camshaft actuator could be stuck, I'm still new to this automotive diagnosis stuff. The timing of the intake cam is varied by the relative operation the CVVT vane to the housing.

The VVT solenoid isn't gonna get controlled until the engine is off idle and likely with the transmission in gear. Has a problem been found? I find the filter is pretty high up when going from the bottom and just makes it annoying to remove. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness es and terminals. Ignition "OFF". For now since all seems well, I'm going to keep an eye on the oil levels and see if the P comes back around the time its due for an oil change. The only other thing I could suggest would be to do that un-sticking procedure I described. After consulting "The Google", it seems it could be either the solenoid has gone bad, the crank position sensor is faulty, or that the timing chain could be stretched and is now lose. Buy The Book!
