An attacking Kodiak might be making a mistake to attack as normal with biting if the gorilla has the potential ability to rip it's face apart while defending it's life which it would be doing if faced with such an intimidating foe. I dont actually know how strong a bear would be, but I do know that a 45kg can rip a human's arm off. A pound male black bear would probably defeat a silverback, a lb Kodiak is just plain overkill. Strength is always task specific but if you think about who move a heavier rock, who could topple a thicker tree, who could drag a heavier weight, who could resist being knocked down better — a grizzly wins all of those tasks easily. I need to put out there that my debater in me wanted to play more the role of devils advocate, so I wanted to tease the idea of it being more evenly matched but I definitely agree with you that a grizzly would basically always win due to size and having claws and being a predator. When you re-examine the situation with the actual facts it becomes clear the gorilla loses in almost every instance. Siberian tigers have better fighting techniques than a grizzly, but grizzly is min. You seem to keep focusing on the gorilla attacking the bear's jaws which, may I remind you, are not the bear's only weapons: it does use its claws as readily.
