There is something quite enchanting about the Ristorante La Capannina. I think it is the combination of its location in one of the narrow streets off the Piazetta , its service genuinely friendly, as family-run establishments so often are and its food truly traditional and full of flavour. Indeed, I would say that the restaurant embodies the charm of Capri. It is the ristorante Caprese par excellence. I would advise anyone visiting this island magnet for the rich and beautiful to have at least one meal at La Capannina. Who can resist Capri?

When I started my first job, waitressing at a local Italian restaurant, my parents would have to give me a pep talk before every shift. I dropped the plates and forgot the orders, but I also learnt how to move fast, carry four plates at a time and began a lifelong love affair with Italian food. Walking into La Capannina in Scarborough reminded me of working in that family-style restaurant with its generous servings, bustling kitchen and tables of screaming kids next to first dates. Though I came in and left with a smile, no tears were shed in the making of this review. The mix of creamy goats cheese with a lick of sweetness from the fig and honey, acidity from the pickled onion and crunch from the hazelnut was unexpected but oh so good. Luckily there were two hangry diners at the table as the dishes were both bountiful servings. The barramundi was cooked well, flakey flesh with crispy skin as promised, and the Mediterranean antipasto bits and pieces underneath swimming in a tasty oil were a rich and delicious accompaniment. The chicken was equally well cooked though the combination of ingredients felt like a bit of an afterthought, with the sweet marinade over the chook and creamy dressing mixed through the slaw. Saying that, the corn was charred and juicy and the creme fraiche reminded my partner of the fillet of fish sauce which apparently was a great thing. The verdict: A great spot to take the family and enjoy the stunning ocean views. Come in hungry as servings are generous, and try to book a prime spot outside. Close navigation menu Subscribe Log In. We open at AM. Classic cheese or create your own pizza. A sauceless pie topped with ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese and fresh garlic. Grilled breaded chicken meets a delectable tomato sauce, all covered in crispy gooey fresh melted mozzarella and Parmigiano, and hints of aromatic basil on a crisp yet tender homemade crust! Pro tip: Use the lemon wedge to bless your clams with a hint of citrus. Fried squid calamari is quickly deep fried, keeping it crunchy on the outside and simply perfect on the inside.

I can smell the beans roasting every day at noon like clockwork! Absolutely the freshest coffee available anywhere in the city. Buy them whole and grind yourself as you use, you'll never go back to anything else.

Chef Rispoli has manned the stoves here for thirty years and he knows his business. Lovely atmosphere and amazing view with very attentive service - brilliant place! Great any time of day. The service and recommendations for wine and dessert were fantastic. Staff were very friendly and accommodated to our needs. I settled myself comfortably on the banquette at my usual corner table in the upper dining room there is a larger, lower one, too, but I prefer the smaller space , and knew I was in for a good evening. Jade Jurewicz The West Australian. Come in hungry as servings are generous, and try to book a prime spot outside. Very accomodating, staff were attentive and made us welcome. Love the cocktails and food is always delicious. Great restaurant. Great wood-fired pizzas Very nice atmosphere and lovely food. Had a problem with the side salad. Checkout the opening hours first and bear in mind that if you reserve ahead, you won't have to wait in line.
La Capannina enjoys a great position overlooking the iconic Scarborough waves. We visited for lunch on a sunny spring day and the large outdoor dining area was filled with diners. For those who hate a draft, you can grab a blanket provided by the restaurant, or book a table inside the restaurant.
Fabulous location, perfect for sunset. Very noisy and busy restaurant. On this visit I quaffed local wines: a pleasantly fruity Falanghina and a good bottle of robust red, an Aglianico by Beneventano. Luckily there were two hangry diners at the table as the dishes were both bountiful servings. The greeting on this visit was as it always is, courteous and discreet, for Mr De Angelis pictured, with your correspondent is a real gentleman. It looked like an ordinary dish, but the beef was of such high quality and so tasty, and the onions and roasted potatoes were so appealing, that it is still clear in my memory. The food and service were great. Very accomodating, staff were attentive and made us welcome. Close navigation menu Subscribe Log In. But, of course, I like it even better when the crowds have gone and the elegant thoroughfares are left to the residents and to those of us who are staying in the hotels. This was a really enjoyable dinner of classic dishes.
