The only way to get this item is to farm the mobs of the Waking Shore for it or, alternatively, browse the Auction House and hope to find one there, though it may set purchasing players back somewhere between 1, and 10, gold as of the current market prices, depending on the realm. To take the challenging route and farm the item, players can head to the river of lava near the Obsidian Sanctum to the South. While a variety of mobs in The Dragon Isles have a chance of dropping the Empty Magma Shell, the best odds for a drop are off the Lavaslurpers that travel along the river here and the Basalt Shell mobs.

Did this on first week, several videos that have been out for a while now about this, didn't know it wasn't found until now. What a fun idea! Cool photos and thanks for explaining how to survive the lava damage via the toy! As a rogue I was able to use cloak of shadows to avoid taking damage from the lava.

After testing: if you decide a lava bath is your thing, it'll then fry you and "make you one with the lava". The Empowered Snail is not always up. I found a bug, trying to get this mount, as a DK if you use Anti-Magic Shell before entering the lava, the effect continues and the lava doesn't deal damage to you even when the anti magic shell effect is gone :D. You can bring a healer with you, use Everlasting Horn of Lavaswimming , or try to solo it as a cool guy with your class abilities. Still works in DF S3! Comment by etheryal I did this as a demo lock, and was able to do it fairly easily -- I took Abyss Walker, Profane Bargain, Ichor of Devils, and Strength of Will in the class tree, and made sure my Felguard was summoned and at full health. You will see a very thin line of red - right before a vast expanse of mountains. Thinking back, I believe lava damage is health-based so the health buffs probably didn't matter. Do the mass annihilation of snails to obtain Empty Magma Shell Got me 15 kills to loot it.
