Letterboxd for books
Letterboxd for books surpasses Goodreads in almost every way: user experience, functionality, aesthetics, not being owned by Amazon… and while Goodreads members outnumber Letterboxd users ten-to-one, surely the potential is there — how many people do you know who watched a movie in the last month?

Hi HN! A little over two years ago, Goodreads announced they were shutting off access to their API. I was using it to show what I was reading on my blog at the time, and started looking for alternatives. I found a few that showed potential. I'd been using Letterboxd for a few years at that point and felt it had something that was missing from GR and the others I found, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I decided to build it instead I'm sure many creators can relate. With me as a full-stack product dev and him on product design, we talked to hundreds of readers about what they want in a book tracking and social platform. We've listened to their feedback, tested and iterated constantly. We believe we've created a book space that feels as warm as a familiar library but as exciting as a midnight book launch party. This past weekend we launched Hardcover on Product Hunt and hit 3! We describe Hardcover as a book tracking social network for readers to find new books, track what they read and make lasting connections with other readers. So, Letterboxd for books! Here are a few of my favorite things you can do on Hardcover: Find books - Search for books you know of, check out trending books, explore lists and prompts to find hidden gems, review your recommendations, stumble on friends reads in your feed, or browse all book by genre, mood or tag. Track your reading - One place for every book you want to read, have read and more. You can set your privacy level to public, private for a book?

Madame Web , the latest venture into the Spider-Man universe by Sony, has found an unexpected haven of popularity on the film logging site Letterboxd , even as it faces hurdles at the box office. Released on Valentine's Day, the film has faced challenges in garnering widespread audience interest, indicated by its disappointing earnings and low review scores. Yet, it seems to have struck a chord with Letterboxd users, where it clinched the top spot in the site's weekly ranking of popular films. Madame Web unfolds the story of Cassandra "Cassie" Webb, played by Dakota Johnson , who is thrust into a battle to protect three young women with extraordinary futures from a deadly adversary. The film is described by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura as an origin story for Madame Web, a character with a relatively modest presence in the comic books. He expressed that fans of Spider-Man would appreciate the fresh narrative that traces Cassie Webb's transformation into the iconic figure known from the comics. This approach aims to offer a new perspective to fans, delving into the backstory of a character who has been somewhat enigmatic in the Spider-Man lore.

Letterboxd has been around forever, and is a popular way to track and review movies. Trackt is another option here, and if you prefer that, I recommend Cinema Time , but the concept is similar. I almost never leave a written review, but you totally could if you want. Hat tip to Timothy Huneycutt for the idea. This one is a little harder to explain, but the concept is the same as Letterboxd.

Much better than the others tbh. GOG Galaxy is trying hard and its all automated. What is this. It doesn't really have social features afaik. NoirLamia said:. For readers that prefer to avoid the social part of things, I have a hunch that approach might be more comfortable. Ignore my circa profile pic The founders, a couple who met at Stanford and later married, had tech and journalism backgrounds, but they strike me as readers first and developers second. Do you do this for nonfiction only, or fiction as well? Goomy Banned. It's been a ton of fun to build this out. I am already pretty happy with the suggestion I did in Discord and has been already deployed, of having the div id in the feed. I'm excited to share and get feedback from the Hacker News community we've all been a part of for so long even if I've mostly lurked here since

But I've sunk so much time into it I cant see replicating it elsewhere. News I can use.
I can not take part now in discussion - there is no free time. I will be free - I will necessarily write that I think.
