Levanto a monterosso

The Levanto to Monterosso hike follows a gorgeous path with great views of the Cinque Terre coastline and ends at the first of the five villages.

Cinque Terre is Insta-famous for its colourful, photogenic towns, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. So I figured that as this was my second time to this gorge coastal paradise, I really oughta try out a spot of hiking. Well, these hikes vary in difficulty and length, but as we were staying in Levanto, we decided to do the Levanto to Monterosso hike. The hiking route from Levanto to Monterosso covers 7km and should take 2 hours 30 minutes to complete. The route starts near the beach front of Levanto by some arches facing the sea, with an old signpost for Monterosso. And from here the first half an hour is pretty gruelling. I admit I had to take a break during this part and lots of OAPs overtook me… In my defence, most of them had those hiking stick things, so they were clearly pros, okay?

Each section can be covered comfortably and cheaply by train, which stops in each of the villages. The described route leads along partly stony paths high above the sea, past lonely farmhouses, olive and fig trees, cacti and typically Mediterranean vegetation. It is highly recommended to take enough drinks with you. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in both Levanto and Monterosso. We continue on what is now the most beautiful section of the trail through maquis, tree heath and pines. We pass a bronze memorial plaque and continue towards Punta Mesco. In places we can enjoy impressive views down to the sea. At a fork in the road, keep straight on now signposted No. A detour leads us to the Punto Panoramico Punta Mesco 20 minutes. Se quindi state organizzando una vacanza o un weekend a Levanto… beh, potete permettervi di dimenticare tutto, ma non potete dimenticarvi di portare con voi delle scarpe comode per cimentarvi in questa bellissima escursione di trekking. Da qui partono le indicazioni — sempre chiare e precise — e una scaletta che sale passando accanto al castello e alle antiche mura cittadine. A questo punto si prende la strada ciottolata che sale in leggera salita verso il bosco che dopo poco diventa sentiero. Per un breve tratto il sentiero confluisce sulla strada asfaltata, dopo di che si imbocca un sentiero a gradoni sulla destra che scende verso il mare e che si inoltra nella macchia: qui viene il bello. Percorrere il sentiero in primavera significa imbattersi nel proliferare di una vegetazione rigogliosa e selvaggia , tra i profumi della macchia e fiori di ogni colore. Per il rientro basta risulta molto comodo prendere il treno la stazione si trova a Fegina, proprio di fronte al mare , che in soli 7 minuti riporta a Levanto. I noticed that there was a bit of mud of our route even though it had been a couple of days since it rained. Air-conditioning is available on Trenitalia's regional trains.
