Lady I spoke to from offpeakluxury was extremely helpful in planning my stay and the hotel ticked all the boxes for a lovely break away.

This was simple enough to get to from Cambridge on a Friday night straight from work, traffic allowing us to arrive at pm where we were swiftly shown to our dimly lit room and left to relax for a while before dinner. I truly wish service was like this all the time, our waiter could show every service team a thing or two! Whilst we dined at this spa, we enjoyed the best of both worlds — healthy dining, mixed with the odd treat or two — perfect. The cheesecake was off the menu by the time we got to dessert on the first night, but I managed to grab a wedge of delicious lime and coconut on the second night. Either way, we woke up drool and all! These pods were fabulous, complete with private lighting and sound systems to help you unwind — these are well worth trying out. Chilling out in, around and even over the pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi was just what the doctor ordered. We swam, read our books, chatted, walked around the stunning grounds of spa and did what we had intended to do — we switched off, well and truly. We had treated ourselves to this break at our own cost, however after an excited chat prior to our arrival, the spa offered a few extras for our stay, such as a three course dinner on the first night and a bottle of superb prosecco to kick start our relaxation. The breakfast was fantastic, everything you could imagine on offer, from fresh fruit and cereals, warm croissants, meats and cheeses through to a full English buffet. I liked that you could order different options when it came to eggs, I indulged in freshly poached eggs with runny yolks with my toast and bacon, perfect. Whilst enjoying our massages, the only fault would be that doors were banging outside our room quiet closers should be standard in spas!

From the moment you check in, take your bags to your room and change into your dressing gown — you quickly arrive in heaven. The hotel has a gorgeous outdoor terrace to enjoy the summer rays, restaurant, reading room, bar, gym and a complex spa offering. Complimentary wireless Internet access was offered at the hotel but the signal is weak and mobile phones are not encouraged. Personally, I hope the signal never gets any better because it saved me for a day and taught me how to relax, rendering my phone useless. Of course for those technology addicts, certain places in the hotel have high-speed access. The room also has a small balcony overlooking the courtyard and grounds. The bathroom here however was the real show-stopper and on contrast to the room it felt much more modern and sophisticated.

And did we mention, the place is stunning? This journalist was lucky enough to nab an hour with the man himself; a deeply eye-opening and thought-provoking experience. The lovely Michael comes from the esteemed Chiva-Som in Thailand, and offers a selection of healing therapies - such as 'energetic balancing and harmonising, myotherapy and meditation' - designed to restore imbalances to a person's mental, emotional or spiritual level that may also manifest itself in a detrimental physical imbalance. The good witch doctor even cooked up a bespoke botanic tonic for me to take away to help with a specific ailment - which I won't reveal…but rest assured I'm sold.
