Looking for a brief history on the versions of RailSounds 1 ,2 ,3, etc. Replies sorted oldest to newest. Railsounds was borne of the early "Sound of Steam" in the early 90s. My Frisco Mikado from has "Railsounds 1" then just known as railsounds and it's basically Sound of Steam with a much better whistle. Railsounds II came out in , I believe, and was the first Railsounds with polyphonic sound and good sound quality. The Conrail SD60 from sounds amazing even to this day. Railsounds 2. Not sure what the actual difference is between Railsounds II and Railsounds 2. Railsounds 3 isn't offically a "thing" but a few engines made in had what is essentially Railsounds 3, one being a Soo Line SD They lost one Diesel RPM rev level 3 instead of 4 but added crewtalk and towercom.
The RS 5. I belive it stated on the box it was signal sounds.
Well trainsounds are cheaper but don't sound as good in my opinion. Heres a vid of an engine with trainsounds. Heres a vid of an engine with Railsounds. Oddly, it seems like the trainsounds tender makes a diesel style horn blast opposed to your railsounds tender that sounds a lot more like a real steam engine, unless it's just the video-over-the-internet quality that makes it sound that way. I own both Railsounds and Trainsounds equipment. Trainsounds are great especially if you just want some sounds to go with your trains.

By separating the sound from the locomotive itself you can use any engine and tender combination to pull your train and still hear steam sounds. Yes, you can even have amaze your friends by pulling the steam boxcar with a diesel locomotive. The boxcar is ready to roll right out of the box except for installation of a 9-volt alkaline battery. The battery provides uninterrupted sound when cutting track power briefly to sequence a reverse unit and also provides power for the steam shutdown sequence. As for the digitally recorded sound?
