In the griffins second foray into battle for the season, we once gain boarded the bus for a long distance fixture in the land of our fathers. Buoyed on by the triumphant news of Gloucester's recent acceptance at the world cup they would do there best to make sure this didn't happen. Burry Port RFC was the venue and a warm autumn day set up a close encounter of the rugby kind. The match started with the tooing and froing of a sea trawler balancing upon the precipice of a wave. The welsh full back slicing through the Gloucester team like a young Phil Bennett whilst the Gloucester 6 was charging over the line with a Scott Quinell pick and go special. After the initial scoring burst it slowed down before half time. The Welsh team were relying on their backs while Gloucester were pulling them into a tug of war in the dark arts of forward play. The Llanelli team were puled into the arm wrestle and at half time the two sides were split only by 5 points. The second half was started and The griffins smelt an upset on the cooling sea breeze from the nearby Bristol channel. The ruck was hotly contested causing concern from both teams. Gloucester's tactic to drag the opposition into a forwards dominated game was working. Llaneli were finding it harder to exit their half.

The final team features players from 16 clubs and 7 countries.

The Llanelli Warriors Mixed Ability team is celebrating their 25th anniversary with their most prestigious fixture to date and one that sees the launch of a new concept in mixed ability rugby. The Warriors were about as far away from Wales as it is possible to get and so conversation moved onto what else could be achieved. The idea of an international representative side was dismissed as it would require qualification based on disability, something that is at odds with the mixed ability concept. Instead an invitational side was discussed, a side that could reward players and clubs and so the idea of the M. With Gwilym achieving the double landmark of his 50th birthday and being the 1st person to play fixtures, as well as it being the Warriors 25th Anniversary, Jamie decided to test the idea. Initially inviting players from sides with strong links to the Warriors and Gwilym, for a game at Burry Port the enthusiasm for the concept quickly became apparent.

The 1st meeting between the sides took place at the side of the famous Recreation Ground in Bath and they served up a game worthy of the history of venue. Although local side Walcot had home advantage, with it being only their 2nd season, the Llanelli team had experience on their side. The visitors had the edge for the opening quarter but found the home team hard to break down. The wings had plenty of opportunity but squandered several clear cut chances but eventually centre Johnathan Kearney was worked clear. Walcot were disrupted by an injury to fly half Dan Haine but looked dangerous on the break and worked the conditions well. Although Llanelli scored again through centre Murphy, there was plenty to play for at the half way stage. The Llanelli team would have been disappointed not to be further ahead but Walcot knew they could have been even closer.

The festive season might be upon us, but neither side were feeling charitable in this tough encounter at People's Park. The Warriors lost Jac Lewis in the warm up, but still had 29 players pulling on the jersey. The team fronted up in the face of the Panthers physical challenge and managed to take points when the opportunities arose. The Panthers battled throughout but on a few occasions let promising positions go due to indiscipline. It a close game, it was critical. The closeness of the teams was illustrated by there being no score for the 1st 30 minutes as they teams looked for an edge.
