Most Famous Vampires. Vlad Tepes the Impaler Dracula The name Dracula conjures up a myriad of dark images in our mind; late night horror movies of vampires and vampire hunters, dark forests in Romania, and tyranical leaders capable of all sorts of evil acts. Here is some background information on the Dracula from which Bram Stoker -- and Jeanne Kalogridis -- were inspired: Prince Vlad Tepes, born , died , ruler of the lands now known as Romania. Vlad Tepes which Kalogridis spells phonetically in English as Tsepesh was born in the town of Sighisoara in Transylvania now known as northern Romania in and later came to rule that area of southern Romania known as Wallachia. The word "tepes" in Romanian means "impaler" -- and Vlad was so-named because of his penchant for impalement as a means of punishing his enemies. Impalement was a particularly gruesome form of execution, wherein the victim was impaled between the legs -- to put it politely -- upon a large, sharpened stake the width of a burly man's arm.

Lucrezia's family was typical of the ruthless Machiavellian politics and sexual corruption of the times. It was alleged to be characteristic of the Renaissance Papacy. Lucrezia was cast as a femme fatale , a role seen in many artworks, novels, and films. Very little is known for sure about Lucrezia. Whether she was involved in the political activities of her father and brothers is unclear. They certainly arranged several marriages for her to important and powerful men.

The papal guards forced the ragged prisoners into St. Peter's Square. They were shackled at the wrists and gathered in a close knot near its geographical center. The guards formed a phalanx at the broad entry into the square, preventing escape. The prisoners looked up at the Vatican windows, where, on a small balcony at one of the larger windows, the year-old Pope Alexander VI, formerly Rodrigo Borgia, stood with his year-old daughter, Lucrezia Borgia. Both were smiling.

Gabi hunts down his maker, Luci, once an infamous member of the Borgia family, terrorized by her own brother and finally turned in a vicious black ritual. Remember back when vampires were definitely creatures of horror, bound to humanity, yet whole apart from it? There is little I can say here without giving away too much, but it does move the story into a place you could never guess it would go, it's also quite surreal. Their advantages over other literary vampires are balanced by their reproductive difficulties, with, it seems, only those possessing a certain gene being able to survive the transformation. In Elizabeth became pregnant due to an affair with a peasant man. While the book begins and ends with Gabriele and Lilly our main characters from the first novel, this is Lucrezia's story. I love this one because it's a lot different than others, most obviously because "vampires" aren't sex symbols, they're mindless monsters that necromancers possess and ride around in. I'm very much looking forward to finding out how it all ends in 'Demon Dance'. Interestingly, despite the dark nature of the vampire, at the heart Lucrezia still wishes to be a good person. Of course, the whole point of Lucrezia retelling her story is to find out who the demon stalking Gabriele and Lilly is. With much study it had been found that Cesare himself had a sister by name of Lucrezia. This novel really was a page turner. Vampires are put firmly back in the horror genre, they are a species to be feared and are above the normal rules of society.

The ethical modernistic peoples at the time, believed that he had merely seen this woman's other portraits- none of which were recovered , and had simply used them as a template in his most recent painting, but Antione claimed that it was fresh and posed by the woman herself. Surely Luci has some idea to the identity of the beast that now threatens her entire vampiric family and how it became what it is today.
What phrase... super, a brilliant idea
