Dining Addiction was started in by me, Dustin Cole, a portrait and wedding photographer by trade. Initially started in Seoul, South Korea, the blog has since transfered back to my hometown of San Diego. This blog is meant to document my favorite locations, and share the love. We decided to try the Premium Korean Sirloin, and out came a perfectly marbled steak of a quality on par with Japanese wagyu at the upper end of the scale. To fill our tummies we needed something else on top of that, so we also ordered thin slices of a cheaper cut as well as a plate of the inexpensive samgyeopsal, pork belly, which tastes amazing together with the Korean ssamjang dipping sauce. Integrated in the table was a charcoal grill, which the staff took care of for us. Right above the grill was a huge ventilation duct, so not a single trace of cooking fumes was allowed to escape and get stuck in our clothes. Maple Tree House indeed started as a restaurant in a small house at the scenic Samchong-dong, and has opened branches at Itaewon and Gangnam. It presents as traditional Korean dining concept in a modern setting. Plus point for tourists, the menu and websites are both in English, with directions and photos. Actually, some friends never got about the fuss about Korean BBQ, and I was never quite over the moon myself. The service staff was professional, attempting to explain in English as she set up the grill with hot charcoal. As I watched the Korean Jeju Black Pork Collar being barbecued, the sizzling sounds and slight-charred appearance with oil bubbles got us all super piped up. The waitress grilled the meats, cut it up and served proficiently like she has been doing this for years, yet in an ajumma fashion like a mother fussing over her children.
