Mitchell, famous for Gone with the Wind, ordered all of her unpublished writings destroyed upon her death; these short stories and diary entries are almost all yet discovered to have escaped destruction. The stories, written from Mitchell's early youth to her teenage years, are supplemented with biographical notes and black and white photographs of the author, her family and friends as well as of the works themselves, shown in youthful cursive.
