They drive progression as you unlock one Kingdom to the next, and will be the main motivator to return and replay areas - with many more unlocking after a first visit, and once you have finished the story. It's worth noting these locations usually have a hidden Moon to find - so don't leave until you find it. Another thing worth noting is Power Moons tend to unlock in waves. Upon a first visit is a set amount you can grab, and sometimes once you have completed certain story objectives - such as New Donk City's opening and the Sand and Snow Kingdoms - more will appear.

Head over to the oasis and capture the Lakitu. Instead of navigating through them to the exit, instead, fly over to the right side of the large wall. Destroy that crate and a power moon will fly out of it to a small landing across from where you are. This challenge appears on the top of the ruins at the Tostarena Northwest Reaches.
