Megas XLR is a series about an overweight couch potato named Coop who stumbles across a giant robot in a junkyard. He soon discovers that the robot was sent from the future when a woman named Kiva returns to the past to claim what is rightfully hers, though Coop made so many modification to the machine so he's the only one who can fully operate it. Things also heat up when Coop learns that an alien race called the Glorft are also after his MEGAS robot, so he teams up with Kiva and his best friend Jamie to fight them off, though mostly so he can keep his new toy. Megas XLR is a mecha Monster of the Week cartoon created by Chris Prynoski and George Krstic, two of the minds behind MTV's Downtown , that takes mecha anime tropes and crosses them with "guy culture" and The '80s to make an affectionate spoof of both. In the distant future, mankind finds itself losing a war against a race of aliens known as the Glorft. Humanity knows it can't stop the Glorft now , so it decides to send MEGAS into the past to turn the tide of the war — but a mistake accidentally sends the mecha too far into the past. MEGAS sits in a junkyard in Jersey City for seventy years — until a large, jovial gearhead and video game fanatic by the name of Coop unearths it. Coop repairs the robot, but he also makes a few modifications — such as replacing the mecha's absent, destroyed head with a Plymouth Barracuda, and operating the mech's systems with various video game controls.
