A deep update, that seems unlikely in my opinion… And carrying… the M. C deserves a simple thing: the 5 additional Syntakt machines, which technically should not be the most difficult to set up. The M. S is not really limited in these sounds but for the M. C it is ultimately very limited. More machines would not be my first priority, but it totally agree, more machines could be simple, fun and very exciting. And honestly, a clap engine, while fun to find workarounds and come up with unique weird claps, would be very useful. Yes, the ones that are already made for the syntakt would not be difficult to add to the M:C. I was only messing tho really. Im just guessing but the model: concept seems a bit abandoned? Partly due to the mishap with the handle… just my thinking. Hope Im wrong. Were that the case, it may never come out due to eating into Syntakt sales, and the same for an expanded Cycles.

Fair or not, Elektron has a reputation for making complex and kinda pricey electronic music gear. In a lot of ways, it's a stripped-down version of the company's Digitakt sampler. If you're familiar with the Digitakt, you've no doubt often seen it paired with the Digitone , a sort of sibling groovebox that relies on FM synthesis instead of samples. So it only makes sense that Elektron would want to give the Model:Samples its own FM-based partner in crime. At its core it's the same six-track monophonic sequencer -- but with a streamlined version of the Digitone's sound engine under the hood. As a result, the Cycles isn't exactly a budget-friendly replacement for the Digitone. It's very much its own instrument.

There seems to be something of a groovebox Renaissance underway, with recent releases from Roland, Polyend, and Elektron bothering the bank accounts of musicians around the world. This left-field release primed the pump for what would be a string of successful and much-coveted instruments, which mostly followed the blueprint of great sound, deep sequencer, complex architecture, and steep price. It features both drum and melodic sounds, and while it is technically polyphonic, in practice it is primarily a monophonic instrument more on this later. The buttons are comfortable and responsive, and the endless rotary encoders are stable with a good amount of resistance. The chassis is lightweight and begs to be taken on the go. The LCD screen is small but easy to read, and the visual feedback is useful and welcome. Power comes via an adapter or micro USB-2 cable, both included.
