Netero was at first characterized as an energetic, playful, and at times seemingly absent minded elder. Knowing and understanding why characters fight not only makes the fight emotionally engaging to an audience, it can also alter its trajectory altogether depending on the circumstances, thus making it more varied and interesting. And so it happens. Considering both Meruem and Netero are both the strongest characters the series has shown thus far, there was a certain worry that I have in how the fight will play out. But, this is where Hunter x Hunter understanding of objectives and obstacles made its appearance again. And so, the battle between Netero and Meruem became a battle of endurance with the objective of both sides being the submission of the other. Either Netero submit to his bias first, making him predictable to Meruem, or Meruem gives up in finding exploitable pattern first.

When asked if he wants to fight the ant nonetheless, netero, Netero replies that he'd rather not fight at netero and only take out the Queen before she can give birth to the King, although Neferpitou's En makes it unlikely.

During the Chimera Ant arc of the series, Netero displayed the level of his strength to the fans and proved to be quite a challenge for Meruem, the King of Ants. In his prime, Netero is said to have been twice as strong as he was during his old age, meaning he would've been a menace back then and only a few characters would be able to put up a fight against prime Netero. Meruem is the King of the Chimera Ants in the Hunter x Hunter series and the strongest of all the known characters to date. A glimpse of his true power was provided to the fans during his clash against Netero. Even though Netero was powerful, Meruem wasn't even bothered by his level of strength. Netero, even in his prime, would've been unable to defeat Meruem in a fight, and it's quite apparent as to why that's the case.
