The one I rented a Diesel is not even close enough to be able to run it in the hills. As mentioned, it will bale about anything. The only thing ours won't bale is really dry straw, several times we had to bale in the early morning when the dew was on.

The S88 is rated at 55HP but the 6 cylinder torque power does make a differance. I tried a Farmall on it which is also rated at 55 HP and it wouldn't handle it as well Hobby farm. You could probably get by with 50, but the smallest I ever ran it with was If you're doing any amount with one, I think at least 60 would be the way to go I agree with Rod, I have a little and works well with a 70 horse tractor. But, when I put the horse tractor on it, things just really work so much better. Better and tighter bales, better ties, just an all around nicer job.
