A man has been charged in Australia with the alleged murder of missing mother-of-three Samantha Murphy, police say. The year-old from the small town of Scotsburn was charged on Thursday - just over four weeks after Ms Murphy vanished on February 4 while on a morning run in nearby Ballarat, a city in the country's state of Victoria. Her disappearance - which has been likened to the disappearance of Nicola Bulley in the UK last year - led to a huge search operation that saw police and volunteers scour bushland near the city, but police have still found no trace of the year-old. Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police Shane Patton said officials will allege Ms Murphy was murdered at Mount Clear, a rural suburban area about three miles from Ballarat and seven miles from Scotsburn, on the day she disappeared. Patton said the accused was not known to the family and they are not looking for anyone else in relation to her disappearance. He added the accused has not disclosed where Ms Murphy's body is and detectives would do 'everything' to find her for the sake of bringing closure to her family. Lancashire Constabulary said that there was no evidence of either suspicious activity or third party involvement in the disappearance and quickly stated that their working hypothesis was that she had fallen into the River Wyre. However, an extensive search of the river and surrounding land involving police divers , helicopters , sniffer dogs and drones found no body. On 19 February, Bulley's body was found in the river by a man and a woman walking in the area, about one mile 1. The inquest , which concluded in June , determined that Bulley's death was due to accidental drowning. The police were criticised for their handling of the case, including releasing private details of Bulley's health and poorly communicating with the media which resulted in public speculation. Members of the public, particularly users of social media, were also criticised for travelling to the area during the search and for what the police described as "[playing] private detectives ".
