Nightmare Fredbear is a major antagonist and one of the nightmare animatronics of the Five Nights at Freddy's series, first appearing in Five Nights at Freddy's 4 as the main antagonist. He is a nightmarish variant of Fredbear, who is the mascot of the old Fredbear's Family Diner. This tattered and torn bear animatronic has golden fur and wears a purple hat and bow tie. Out of all the nightmare animatronics except for Nightmare , Nightmarionne , and Nightmare Balloon Boy , Nightmare Fredbear appears to be the least damaged. He is slightly stout and bulkier than the other nightmare animatronics. Bearing such monstrous appearance, he is a mottled golden color with various splotches of brown and has many tears and holes in his suit.

This may be due to his real-life counterpart being responsible for The Bite of '83, which had him bite down on the Crying Child, Michael's younger brother. In Night 5, all of the nightmare animatronics mysteriously disappear, with Nightmare Fredbear appearing everywhere they do, and doing each of their jobs, however, as there is only one of him, he is the only threat. However, he is quicker, and more difficult to get rid of constantly laughing sadistically throughout the night. After the night is completed, the next minigame shows four bullies, Michael Afton and his friends, picking on the former's sibling. Then, as a cruel joke, they put the child's head in the mouth of the Fredbear animatronic, causing it to be unable to sing. The child's head became trapped between the second row of teeth in the animatronic, and, as the jaw slowly clamped down on his head, the bullies laughed. Their laughing soon turned into horror, as Fredbear's jaw suddenly broke through the child's fragile skull. On Night 6, at exactly 4 am, all of the animatronics disappear, and are once again replaced with Nightmare Fredbear, where he acts the same as in Night 5. Nightmare Fredbear returns as a customizable enemy in the game Ultimate Custom Night.

Nightmare Fredbear is one of the six nightmare animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy's 4. Nightmare Fredbear's appearance is similar to that of Nightmare's. Furthermore, he has two black buttons on his chest which is very similar to BB 's. He is a mottled golden color with various splotches of brown and has many tears and holes in his suit. He has a large head, and a mouth full of long, sharp teeth. His claws are razor-sharp, keeping with the Nightmare animatronic motif. Most of the fur on his ears is missing. From the stomach, he has a large slit at the lower part armed with razor-sharp fangs. He also has what appears to be a reddish tint at the roots of his teeth and on the claws of his right hand. When active, no other animatronics will attack which, to a degree, can simplify things.
