Replaced sensor, same problem. P Code.
P and intermittent rough idle. Thread Tools. Hi, My friend just bought a F 5. Most of the time it runs great, but sometimes when you stop the truck the idle will drop down and the truck sounds like it is going to die but so far it hasn't actually died, it starts knocking really badly and runs very rough. If you let it keep running like that it sets P

I was doing some other work at this shop as they were swapping the motor out in this F When they got done they had a p Bank 1 Cam code, This is a complete rebuilt Jasper motor. They double checked everything they had done several times and asked me to look at it. I saw it had new pigtails on the bank 1 and bank 2 cam sensors, they state were there before they got the vehicle. I checked grounds and signals coming out of the sensors, Put my scope on both sensors, and crank sensor. I show up today to do the security for the PCM, and after keys are learned I checked codes and P and P are pending on start up. I start over from scratch. Verify all connections, make sure the connectors are pinned correctly. Engine and body grounds. Disconnect alternator completely. Follow the code trouble tree and it leads me back to replacing the PCM. Load test the wires, verify continuity, even unplugging coils 2 at a time to see if there was some noise that was interfering with things since i saw a mild triple strike in the waverform. Clear codes and check every time and as soon as I start it, codes return, pending. At this point I've been there the better part of a day going over this thing and coming up short.
I double checked it's backwards from factory pinout. I just feel so bad for him.
The error code P signals that there is a problem with the circuit of the camshaft position sensor. This sensor determines the rotational speed and the camshaft position , and then it sends this information to the PCM. With this information, the PCM synchronizes the timing of the fuel injection with the timing of the ignition system the spark. P and P with some helpful information about camshaft position sensors. Thread Tools. Received 1 Like on 1 Post. Sparkplugs looked pretty bad. Replaced with new plugs. Ohmed primary and secondary coils of each coil pack, all were within specification. Vehicle ran better. No misfire codes but will still run rough. When it is running rough it is pretty harmonic and seems like a dead miss.

I am thinking this points to VCT solenoid. My car won't start but there is no error code provided, injectors are clean, ECM signal is negative and there is spark in every spark plug. Cylinders is passenger side, is drivers side. I checked grounds and signals coming out of the sensors, Put my scope on both sensors, and crank sensor. If they tell him he is out of luck which is what I am guessing will probably happen I think we will go ahead and replace the VCT solenoids and see what happens. I have attached a known good capture of the same engine and as you can see the cam sensors in my capture are sloped differently. FTE Mom. Received 4 Likes on 2 Posts. Maybe it's something in the strategy but I definitely would have approached it differently. Activating the phasers make it run badly and they respond and snap back well. OBDI has power but will not send codes. Apparently someone has been into the rest of the loom somewhere. Engine and body grounds. I start over from scratch. Unfortunately since it is an 08 the valve covers have to come off to change the solenoids. I am thinking this points to VCT solenoid. Read more about Ford and the error code P What else should I check? Does that sound possible or is there any other way to test it?
