Is it possible to have a bad camshaft position sensor and be able to drive the car for a distance before it lights again? Also, the battery is the original. I thought I read somewhere that someone felt a battery this old could be the problem. The battery seems fine.

Some thoughts, 1 we live in a very dry place , so no grounding issues or corrosion on any electrical parts 2 battery is less than 1 year old, no charging issues 3 i have pulled and both cleaned Cam-shaft sensors of normal Gray residue you get at K miles of engine wear that accumulates on this magnetic sensor 3 electrical failure of both sensors at the same time seems unlikely 4 the one time i heard it on start-up, there was also a rather disturbing sound from engine like a starter grinding.
