One such DTC is the P code. Continue reading to find out what the P trouble code means and what symptoms it causes. I also review the most common symptoms and show you how to fix it. The evaporative emission control EVAP system keeps fuel vapors from escaping into the environment. Fuel vapors from the tank get absorbed by the charcoal that is in the canister. Aside from seeing the Check Engine Light, you might not have known that something was wrong. Because the P deals with the evaporative emission control system, any part of this can malfunction and lead to the trouble code. However, it could also be something as small as a loose fuel cap.

In this tutorial, I'll shed some light on what this trouble code means and some of the tests you can perform to find its cause and solution in case a loose gas cap is not the source of the problem. Unfortuately, this trouble code does not pinpoint a specific component as the cause of the EVAP system's fuel vapor leak. Although a P will cause your Silverado Sierra to fail an emissions test, the EVAP system problem causing it generally does not cause any driveability issues. Generally the only other problem, besides a failed emission test, is the check engine light shining nice and bright on the instrument panel. The purpose of the evaporative emission control EVAP system is to capture the fuel tank vapors and prevent them from escaping into the ambient air the atmosphere. Generally, a P trouble code is caused by a loose gas cap one that wasn't tightened enough after fueling the vehicle. If a loose gas cap is not the problem, then the following problems could be causing the P trouble code:. I looked up a but doesn't look like there is a separate vacuum switch and looks like if there is its on the canister. The EVAP purge solenoid valve isolator 2 and mounting fastener 3 must never be substituted. With the EVAP vent solenoid open, any vacuum in the system should decrease quickly unless the vent is blocked. I am think it is most likely at the Fuel Tank Filler Neck area where I had to extend it with the bs they provided. Please consider creating a new thread.
