The space was designed by multidisciplinary Toronto firm Castor Design , whose part-industrial, part-glam environment is peppered with furniture and lighting of its own design. But owners Jesse Girard and Richard Lambert aren't anti-establishment, they're simply trying to give the city a more interesting watering hole. Artists, new immigrants, and young families all call Parkdale home, and its local businesses cater to a diverse crowd with eclectic interests. The architecture in the area is equally varied, with a mix of original Victorian mansions, commercial storefronts and high-rise apartment buildings. The restaurant posted their closure announcement on Instagram last night, thanking their "loyal clientele" and staff for their support over the last ten years. It has been an honour to serve the community of Parkdale, Toronto, and those that have joined us from afar for what has been a 10 year journey. We wish to thank our loyal clientele for their continued patronage and support over the years. It has been an incredible experience and none of this would have been possible without you. We would also like to thank our entire staff, both past and present, as well as those that contributed in many different ways.

Solange Rivard is shown on the roof top garden of Parts and Labour, a new restaurant in Parkdale. Address: Queen St. Driving by the provincial jail recently, I saw inmates playing baseball on a well-kept diamond, wearing spiffy red-and-blue uniforms. Still, as I told my small children when they asked, jail is where people get punished for doing bad things. We sit at long communal tables on uncomfortable plastic chairs under bare fluorescent lights. The same bundled fluorescent tubes look nice in Delux, but not in this barren space. Blaring music adds to the discomfort. I may be too old for loud noise and forced friendship at dinner. But watery drinks, monosyllabic service and stunt cooking are universally problematic.

Parts and Labour is a new edition to the Parkdale Queen West Hood which has been getting a lot of attention recently. The space was a hardware store for years and the new owners decided to keep the Pro Hardware sign and integrate the buildings history into the title Parts and Labor as well as the interiors design industrial: think industrial fluorescent lighting and screwed bar stools. A two minute walk from my house I popped in on some blisteringly hot day to find the space full of football fans.
