What I'm really looking for are tools to aid me in lifting and placing some 60cm square plain concrete slabs which are rather heavy. Anyway, the Screwfix site came back to tell me that people who use the search term "paving slabs" often went on to buy one of the suction lifting tools. There are three advertised with two, three and four suction cups respectively. Has anybody any experience of using these to lift concrete paving slabs? It seems a bit unlikely to me that they'd work. The description of these products mentions them being used to lift sheets of glass or marble. Of course, a concrete paving slab in considerably heavier and the surface isn't as smooth as either glass or marble. They have little bumps all over the surface of both sides. Thanks Dave. They all seem to be near my external house wall thankfully below the DPC. We are in an area with lots of clay, so drainage is rubbish generally. I want to add some gutters between the house and the slabs to stop this build up of water, however it looks like I would have to rip up the first line of slabs, put in the gutter and then put in half slabs?
