By Lucy Crossley for MailOnline. Actress Jean Fennell pictured was picked to play Angie Watts, the landlady of the Queen Vic in EastEnders, but after filming one short scene the role was recast. It was to be actress Jean Fennell's big break. The real-life east-ender had been picked from scores of hopefuls to star in the BBC's brand new soap opera, playing the part of Queen Vic landlady Angie Watts. But after filming just one short scene for the show, Miss Fennell, then 32, was told that she was not right for the role, and the part that would have made her a star was to be recast. Days later, Anita Dobson had stepped into Angie's shoes, and shoulder pads, receiving a round of applause from her fellow cast mates during her first rehearsal. With co-star Leslie Grantham, who played Angie's husband Den, Dobson would go on to become part of one of soap's most famous couples - their Christmas Day showdown in which Den served Angie with divorce papers still classed as one of television's most iconic moments.
