The North course at PKCC is the treasured layout of the two with the renovation launching the course to an elite level among courses in Australia. The conditioning and bunkering is reminiscent of Metropolitan, the strategy rivals Kingston Heath, and the terrain is only trumped by Royal Melbourne on the famed Sandbelt. The front nine is superior to the back in terms of terrain and engaging hole designs, but the front is plenty good. The par fives are the standout feature with perhaps one of the best collections of three-shotters in the greater Melbourne area with the 3rd hole standing as the signature. The course is framed by native trees and grasses as well as heathland vegetation to create a wonderfully natural Australian feel that merges with the world class bunkering for a stunning visual experience. A final feature of the renovation was the construction of classy but comfortable on-site accommodations so that players can enjoy multiple days at PKCC and utilize a motorized cart to get around the property.

The approach shot should favor the left side where an opening in the green exists while the fairway wants to bound balls to pk golf course right toward the immense bunker engulfing that side of the hole.

Reportedly more difficult than the South, the course is blessed with views of Port Phillip bay, and true to Melbourne has a real Sandbelt feel to it. I hear the old members of those courses spluttering in their drinks already. The course, while not overly long, is tightish off the tee and has hard, well bunkered green complexes that require strategic thinking. The chief designer Michael Cocking emphasizes the importance of hitting your approach from the right when the pin is in the left and vice versa. When you hit a sand trap, it also seems that you are always hitting into a down hill part of the green. Cleverly there are always options when playing this course.

Woods visited The Park in West Palm Beach in late March to help introduce the new course and hit the ceremonial first tee shot. The new course is set on the site of the former Dick Wilson-designed West Palm Beach Golf Course, one of the first notable designs of the post-World War II years when it opened in and long considered among the top municipal courses in the country. That course closed in due to deteriorating playability and diminished interest and sat fallow for several years. Woods was one of the donors. Note: the PGA of America is not connected to the project. Hanse and Wagner retained nothing of the Wilson course and originally envisioned using its deep, sandy terrain to craft holes that would look and play like the Sand Belt courses of Melbourne, Australia. In routing the course, however, they removed pockets of trees, palmetto and other vegetation—crucial ingredients of Sand Belt courses—that would have enhanced that effect. The first nine plays through the calmer eastern half of the site, with little elevation change and sandy transitions separating holes rather than rough. The standouts are the sublime par-4 second with a low, thin green best approached from the left where a troublesome bunker lurks, and the short par-4 sixth with a small, shallow two-level green guarded by a pot bunker—whether the hole is cut on the upper right section or lower left will dictate where the drives should be place.

The deepest bunker on the course is found on the left side of the green with a sharp edge cut all the way up to the putting surface where the slightest of errors are quick to be punished.
