Appropriately, she used extract from the rose to create a deadly poison, which she administered to Dent through a kiss. He fell into a coma and was not expected to live. Discovering the origin of the poison, Batman confronted Isley, who now called herself "Poison Ivy". In the ensuing struggle, Batman captured the rose as a hostage of sorts, forcing Ivy to surrender the antidote she developed. He managed to save Harvey's life, and Ivy was imprisoned in Stonegate. Months later, having escaped or been released, Ivy opened an all-natural resort spa outside Gotham, under the alias "Dr. Daphne Demeter".

Batman, his allies, and his rogues gallery each got a visual redesign in The New Batman Adventures , but the Batman Adventures comic series has a strange and macabre explanation for Poison Ivy 's redesign. While Ivy appeared as an ordinary human in the original TV series, her redesign gave her a pale skin tone that created a plant-like appearance, especially in DCAU spin-off comics, where it gradually became a green hue. Along with her redesign, Ivy also began exhibiting superpowers , such as control over plants, seemingly without explanation. After being hit with a makeshift weed killer by Batgirl, Poison Ivy stumbles off, escaping the Bat-Family while they battle Joker. Ivy seeks Alec Holland in Bayou County, where she begs him to reverse the scientific experiments that made her more plant than human, but dies before he can treat her. Poison Ivy managed to deceive the viewers themselves, however, as only her decoy appears in The New Batman Adventures. It's a disturbing twist, revealing that much of Batman and Harley Quinn's time is taken up dealing with a plant copy of Ivy that lacks actual human sentience or has it, and dies a disturbing death that's subsequently hidden from anyone who'd care.
