Most of the times a project that pops in my head is driven by need and this time the thing I needed most was a new bathroom rug.
I wanted to make something soft to stand on and soothe Edie in her crib when she got up in the middle of the night, and thought a DIY pom pom rug would be the perfect addition. The more you wrap, the chunkier your pom pom will be. Slide the yarn carefully off of the cardboard, and lay it on top of the extra piece of yarn that you cut. Tie a knot around the middle of the yarn ball, then flip it over and tie a double knot.

I chose to use a piece of cardboard that I cut off of a box. You can shake it out occasionally to get rid of dust or little things that might get caught up in the yarn. You will surely find the method that suits you the most. We needed about 50 for our rug, which was pretty small. This will give you a nice idea of the finished piece and you can move things around. Slide your scissors through the loop of yarn on each end and cut across. That way we could just throw in the washer. You could sit there snipping forever if you wanted.
