This peacock edition has become a classic of book design, being much reprinted in the following years and even printed on a tote bag in the twenty-first century. The edition is splendid and is celebrated as one of the finest and most handsome of all the Austen editions. A fine copy of the scarce first Thomson edition in an attractive leather binding. However, the Peacock edition played a major part in making the novel a bestseller. An exceptional copy of this edition of the timeless classic; rebound in beautiful brown leather with gilt titling and two raised bands to the spine. Irish illustrator Thomson was best known for his pen-and-ink illustrations of works by authors including Austen, Charles Dickens and J. Edited by R. Very Good. Clean and sound throughout with the untrimmed deckle edges adding to the overall antiquarian feel of the lovely volumes. Initial sales were rapid, totalling copies Gilson A9.
