Rocket league ranks

Recently I've been trying to play ranked. The last time I played ranked was with the old ranks like prospect and challenger. I'm pretty bad, and since I have no friends that are at my same skill level, and I don't want to ruin some rando's experience, I play 1v1s. After finishing my placement matches I got placed in Gold 1 Div 2. I skipped an entire rank! Is this even supposed to be possible? So, after recovering from my shock at how far I dropped in one match, I played a few more games. On average, it took me two wins in a row to go up one division, maybe three if I started at the very bottom of the division. But every time I lost, I would drop a division. No matter how many wins it had been since I last went up a division.
