A group of Corinthian gentlemen recognizing the need for an organization devoted primarily to one-design class racing in the Santa Barbara harbor area, gathered on October 28, and laid the foundation for what is now the Santa Barbara Sailing Club. Our mild Mediterranean climate allows us to sail year-round. Since then our activities have expanded to include PHRF race categories and cruising activities. Affordable access to the sport of sailboat racing has been a primary objective of the SBSC. We have an active inter-club racing program to accommodate all levels of racing skills and inclinations. The Club maintains a boat storage yard in the Santa Barbara harbor area for the benefit of Flag Members. The yard normally contains about 20 boats up to 26 feet in length. In addition to boat storage, the boat yard serves as a meeting place for pre- and post-race activities. We are an active and congenial group who believe that sailing is more fun as a group activity and we promote racing as a means of improving seamanship and sailing skills. We are one of the leading watersports clubs on the East coast, with family-friendly, multi-level dinghy fleets, wind and kite surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and a busy social club. We also have a model yacht section for ! Our beginner level classes covering the Australian Sailing Start Sailing 1 and Start Sailing 2 are offered as a package of 10 weeks on Saturday mornings. By the completion of the course, you will be proficient in boat terminology, able to rig independently, and able to safely sail at all points of sailing in light conditions. A course for students who have mastered all the skills at Start Sailing 2. Sailors in Better Sailing will continue to improve their boat handling skills, learn and practice boat handling and skills necessary to participate on a race course.
