I just had to replace an electric glasstop stove recently, and decided to spend less for the rental property and go with coil burner type than another sensi-temp burner reviews. But I just came to know about new feature by law in this type of stove and how it can be problematic instead of what it was supposed to do.
Can anyone recommend an electric oven without an overly nanny-fied top? We once made the mistake of buying a high-end Samsung cooktop which got Consumer Reports' top rating. It was horrific - burners cycled off and on - couldn't boil water - a plethora of other problems. We ditched it after a couple of months at horrific expense acquired propane - got a Bluestar. Now we're faced with replacing an electric oven in another situation, and I was tempted to get the old-time coil burners, thinking that would ASSURE it would get hot - only to discover the godawful "Sensi-Temp" technology forced down the consumer's throat, which keeps the appliance from cooking food. I don't want to replace huge amounts of cookware with "induction-friendly" stuff, so I'm wondering if there's ANYTHING out there that will actually boil water and cook food without "helping" you "be safe"?

Research indicates that since coil stoves have been required to use temperature-limiting burners where the current flow cuts out at a burner temp of F, notionally as a safety improvement. Reviews of this concept are mixed, with some people saying it's a big problem and others not mentioning it as being any different than the non-limited coils. I suspect different manufacturers have met this requirement with varying degrees of success. What brand of stove were you using? I cook frequently and often do high-temperature dishes like stir fry; a stove that cuts out arbitrarily will be a problem.

And it was, until my mother started cooking on her brand new stove only to find it kept on turning on and off at the higher temperature settings. It turns out starting in , UL regulation requires all new electric ranges with coil burners or elements to have temperature limiting capabilities to reduce the risk of fires. How new Sensi-Temp burners work is they use a sensor to detect the temperature of the cookware. If the pot or pan gets too hot, the coil shuts off until the temperature drops to a safe level.
