Seven sees recent transfer rookie Detective Mills, Brad Pitt, paired up with Detective Somerset, Morgan Freeman, a pessimistic veteran of the police force close to retirement. Far from a gentle introduction, the pair are thrown in at the deep end when called to a gruesome crime scene where it appears a man has been forced to eat himself to death, signifying the first of the seven sins, gluttony. Each new crime scene is a horrifying tableau of biblical sin, staged by a deranged by organized serial killer that eludes the detectives despite their collective skills. One thing you cannot deny about the film Seven is that, even nearly thirty years on, it is still a gruesome watch both graphically and in terms of content, so where did this film originate? After graduating from Penn States film school hopeful screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker expected that success was just around the corner. Walker instead found himself working in a record store to make ends meet and grew so depressed that he decided to write the darkest crime film he could conceive. Finishing the script, he sent it over to David Koepp who first, got it sold to New Line Cinema, and second, recommended that Walker seek professional help.
